University Project
Challenge :
The University of Franche-Comté was about to change its name, so we were tasked of creating a new visual identity that would reflect its academic excellence, its modernity, and its diversity. It also needed to transition smoothly from the existing identity.
To take up this challenge, I designed the logo based on the «U» that was already used in the previous identity. I distorted and duplicated this shape to create an element like an atom or a flower, symbolizing the research, the connection with nature, the unity, and more.
As the logo has to be polymorphic, I imagined several variations depending on the background color, but also on the University’s components (IUT, IAE, UFR, etc.). These variations are created by changing the number of petals in the main logo and/or adjusting their orientation.
To continue, I created a graphic identity around my logo. I designed a series of 4 posters using part of the main motif of my logo, which could be combined to create the complete shape of the logo. I also showcased the possible variations of this logo on different media.
Once the graphic universe was created, I still had to imagine an animation to showcase my logo in all its variations. To achieve this, I took as a base a circular movement reminiscent of the overall shape of my logo.
To finalize the creation of the visual identity, I designed a mockup for the redesign of the University’s website. Once the mockup was created, I developed a design system outlining the various components of the site, including colors, typography, and their usage.
A design system defines a set of standards, principles, components, and best practices to be used in digital services and websites of an organizations such as the University of Franche-Comté. Used by designers and developers, a design system facilitates collaboration and guides graphic choices when creating new elements. It also ensures consistency with the brand’s visual identity. It provides tools such as color palettes, typography, icons, grids and components.
